There’s a trick to working with “Ruffles”: Poke your RH needle into the mesh tape at even intervals, catching only a small piece of the fabric. The RH needle may be inserted through the tape from front to back or from back to front, whichever you find easiest.

1. PURL ON RIGHT SIDE
To work a basic ruffle on the RS, hold “Ruffles” tape yarn to front of work. *With RS facing, insert RH needle purlwise through next st on LH needle, then into the tape 1/8"/3mm from top edge. Pull this tiny loop of tape toward back of work through the LH st, leaving most of the tape hanging at front to create ruffle. Repeat from *, working 1 st every inch across tape.

2. KNIT ON WRONG SIDE
To work on the WS, hold tape to back of work. *With WS facing, insert RH needle knitwise through next st on LH needle, then into the tape 1/8"/3mm from top edge. Pull this tiny loop toward front of work through LH st, leaving most of the tape hanging at back of work to create ruffle. Repeat from *, working 1 st every inch across tape.

3. WORK IN LOOSE ENDS
When starting or endig work with “Ruffles,” fold back 3"/7.5cm at beg or end of row and keep the cut edge underneath. Work through both layers over the next 3 sts, catching cut end on third st, then continue with single layer.

4. FULL-TWIST RUFFLE
For a fuller ruffle, work several sts into top edge of tape as usual, then work several sts into bottom edge of tape. Alternate working into top and bottom edges of tape to twist several times across row.

5. HALF RUFFLE
To work smaller, more dense ruffles, insert needle into midpoint of tape.

6. TWO-SIDED RUFFLE
Double-sided ruffles are worked by knitting every row or purling every row. This creates a ruffle on both sides of the garment.
