For no seams, knit this skinny vest in the round.
Or, if circulars aren’t your style, work
it back and forth in two pieces. Either way,
you’ll be in the pink.

1. KNIT
TWO TOGETHER
Here we show how to work Row 3 of the chart
for pattern #2 (page 32). After knitting
two stitches, work a “k2tog”
decrease, which slants the stitches to the
right. To do this, simply insert the righthand
needle knitwise into the next two stitches
on
the left-hand needle, as shown, and complete
the same as a knit stitch. |
2. YARN
OVER
Since the “k2tog” decreases
one stitch, you must compensate by increasing
one stitch. In this case, you work a yarn
over (yo) as follows: Without inserting
the needle into a stitch, wrap the yarn
around the right hand needle as for a knit
stitch, then insert it into the next stitch,
as shown, and complete the knit stitch.
You have now created a new stitch. |

3. PURL
THE YARN OVER
On the next, wrong-side row, you will treat
this yarn over just like any other stitch.
In this case, you purl into the yarn over.
(Note that in this vest pattern, the body
is worked in the round; therefore you would
knit this yarn over on the right side.) |
4. SSK:
STEP 1
SSK literally means “slip, slip, knit”
and is the opposite decrease to the “k2tog.”
Insert the righthand needle knitwise, one
at a time, into the first and then the second
stitch on the left hand needle (note that
you have worked a yarn over before this
SSK). |
 |
 |
5. SSK:
STEP 2
Insert the left-hand needle into the fronts
of these two slipped stitches, as shown,
and knit them together. You have now created
a left-slanting decrease. |
6. S2KP:
STEP 1
This is a double decrease, which stands
for “slip 2, knit 1, pass slipped
stitches over.” Here we show Row 9
of the chart. After working a yarn over,
insert the right-hand needle into the next
two stitches as if to k2tog and slip them
to the right-hand needle. |
 |
 |
7. S2KP:
STEP 2
Knit the next stitch on the left-hand needle. |
8. S2KP:
STEP 3
Insert left-hand needle into the two slipped
stitches on right-hand needle, as shown;
pass these two stitches over the knit stitch.
Two stitches are decreased. |
