Motley, yes; foolish, no way. Shiri Mor’s intarsia patchwork dress form-fits cleverly via interior decreases that sub in for traditional side-seam decreases. The mosaiclike blocks come from six vibrant hues of the clingy “Baby Boo” from Knit One, Crochet Too.

When changing colors in intarsia, bring the new color (blue, in our photo) from under the previous color (pink), as shown, then work the next stitch.

If you do not twist the strands around each other as in Photo 1, gaps will form in the knitted fabric, as shown here.

Once the pieces are knit, bury the loose ends by using a yarn needle to weave the ends through several purl bumps on the wrong side of the knitting, as shown.

To weave in ends while you knit, *bring short ends to front of work, knit next st, then bring them to back and knit next st, taking care to keep the ends under the working yarn. Repeat from the *.
