Blanket Bonanza
Maybe it’s the rapidly-approaching fall weather, or that the air conditioning in this office hasn’t realized that it isn’t summer any more, or that we collectively became tired of the teeny, tiny needles necessary to make it through the “Summer of Socks,” but the office is full of people crafting blankets. Adina has all-but-seamed this gorgeous log cabin blanket that involves some special mathematical formula for for color distribution that I really don’t understand- also, check out her planning book on the upper left-hand side of this post. It demonstrates a bizarre amount of organization, which impresses me endlessly.
Jen has been rocking this one for weeks now, and is nearly half-way through with 55 out of 120 hexagons. I am absolutely covetous of the yarn- Julia by Nashua, which is unbelievably soft (it’s a wool, mohair and alpaca blend) and comes in enough interesting colors for Jen to make dozens of different combinations that only infrequently look like hazardous waste warning signs:
And because I know you appreciate the gory details, here’s a backside shot of one of Jen’s pinwheels.
I just cast on for my blanket but am going to wait until next week to show it off so it doesn’t look shabby flanked by these beauties. Jenn works on these blocks every day at lunch and they are so beautiful, the picture doesn’t do it justice. However, I do NOT envy her the task of weaving in the ends. She claims to enjoy it (Adina does too!) but I’m not entirely convinced. Because seriously? Who enjoys weaving in ends? Stay tuned for my ends-free blanket on Monday!
