Knit.1
workshop: spring scarves

a. Faith Hale’s lacy triplestrip scarf
Hale’s luscious scarf makes a feast of the Granny Smith shade of “Mongolian Cashmere 4-Ply” from Jade Sapphire Exotic Fibres. It incorporates three distinct lace patterns, knit separately in long strips and joined together with mattress stitch.

b. Erica Schlueter’s doublesided scarf
Double knitting’s making noise these days. Schlueter’s mohair scarf—in popular “Kidsilk Haze” from Rowan/Westminster Fibers—features a double-knit reversible pattern that takes a K1 in one shade, a P1 in a contrast color, and flips the order on the return row.

1. Line up the cast-on edge of the outside strips with the bound-off edge of the middle strip. Thread the yarn through the first stitch of the bottom edge and the running yarn between the first 2 stitches on the RH strip. 2. Working through the strands between the first 2 stitches of the strip, pass the needle through the next 2 corresponding strands on the LH strip.
3. Continue to work in this manner, joining the strips evenly. Gently pull the seaming yarn taut, as shown, for a smooth finish. 1. With both strands of yarn at the back of the work, pick up the working strand of color A from underneath the waiting strand of color B.
2. Knit 1 with A, and slide the stitch off the LH needle as usual. When the stitch is complete, bring both strands to the front of the work. 3. Knit 1 with A, and slide the stitch off the LH needle as usual. When the stitch is complete, bring both strands to the front of the work.
