GETTING YOUR HANDS ON IT
Q: I don’t live in the States. Where can
I find Knit.1?
Q: I live in Canada. Can I subscribe
to Knit.1?
Q: OK, that’s all fine for
those of you in North America. But I live halfway
across the world from you and I want to subscribe
as well!
Q: How do I order a back issue?
Q: How often does Knit.1 come out?
Q: My issue hasn’t arrived
yet and I subscribed in [month so very long ago].
Where’s my [expletive deleted] magazine?
Q: I’m sorry, that’s
not good enough. Why can’t you work harder
to make sure we get our magazines right away?
Q: I got my first issue but the
second one hasn’t shown up yet. Did something
go wrong?
PATTERNS
Q: I’m having a problem with
one of your patterns. Help?
Q: No, the problem really is
me—the pattern calls for a technique
that I’m not familiar with. What do I
do?
Q: I asked for help on a pattern
weeks ago and haven’t received a response.
What’s the deal?
Q: I saw the cutest thing in
your recent issue but I’m not ready to
pay for the whole magazine. Any chance you
sell individual patterns?
Q: There was this pattern in
one of your magazines that I really wanted
to make, and I bought the issue but lost it,
and now I can’t remember which one it
is. Can you help me?
Q: Hey, what happened to
the alphabet charts that were on the "Knit
Extras" page?
Q:
I don’t live in the
States. Where can I find Knit.1?
A: Knit.1 is available in most
countries, in shops and on newsstands. If
you’ve exhausted all your resources, drop
us a line. Please select the “Editorial
Comments/Suggestions” as the subject.
Q:
I live in Canada. Can I subscribe to Knit.1?
A: Sorry, subscriptions are not being accepted
at this time.
Q:
OK, that’s all fine for those of
you in North America. But I live halfway
across the world from you and I want
to subscribe as well!
A: Sorry, subscriptions are not being accepted
at this time.
Q:
How do I order a back issue?
Call our customer service number: (877)
860-6164. It's toll-free! To order back issues
online visit
our online bookstore.
Q:
How often does Knit.1 come out?
A: Two times a year. Check the website for
what issue is current and when the next one
is due.
Q:
My issue hasn’t arrived yet and
I subscribed in [month so very long ago].
Where’s my [expletive deleted]
magazine?
A: We feel you. Honest, we do. We subscribe
to magazines as well, and are frequently
annoyed at how long it takes us to get our
first issue. Most magazines will tell you
when you subscribe that it will take 6-8
weeks to process, and we’re no exception.
So, depending on when you subscribed, it’s
possible that you missed the cutoff for the
issue that just came out, and your subscription
will start with the next issue.
Q:
I’m sorry, that’s not good
enough. Why can’t you work harder
to make sure we get our magazines right
away?
A: Because we don’t handle subscriptions
from our office here. Most magazines run
subscriptions through a service, which in
turn handles the subscriptions for a whole
lotta other magazines. In fact, that’s
probably why it takes so long from sign-up
to first issue—because while maybe
100 people have signed up for Knit.1,
another 100 have signed up for, I don’t
know, Entertainment Weekly, and
another 100 for Bust, and so on.
Q:
I got my first issue but the second one
hasn’t shown up yet. Did something
go wrong?
A: It is also frustrating that distribution
gets a little wonky at times, and your knitting
friend across town will have received his
copy of Knit.1 weeks before you
do! All we can say is be patient. If 2-3
weeks have gone by AFTER the issue is on
sale, and you still haven’t received
it, contact our subscription service.
Q:
I’m having a problem with one of
your patterns. Help?
A: Have you checked the corrections
page? It’s easy for new knitters
to think they’re doing something
wrong when a pattern doesn’t make
sense, but we make mistakes too, so always
check with our website to see if a correction
has been posted. If it hasn’t, then
let us know what the problem is by filling
out the appropriate form on the
“Contact Us”
page. It will help tremendously...specifically
as you can." to be followed by "When
filling out the form on the contact page,
please include your email address—otherwise
we can't get in touch with you!"
It will help tremendously if you would list
the issue, page and project number, and detail
the problem as specifically as you can.
Q:
No, the problem really is me—the
pattern calls for a technique that I’m
not familiar with. What do I do?
A: There are a couple alternatives: 1) invest
in a really good reference book, like the Vogue
Knitting Ultimate Knitting Book, Nancy
Wiseman’s Finishing Techniques, Elizabeth
Zimmerman’s Knitting Without Tears,
or Montse Stanley’s Knitter’s
Handbook. (Our advice? Get all of them. You
can never have enough helpful reference books
around you) 2) Post your question to the Knit.1
Blog. Once a week Michelle will go through
a knitting-related technique or tip, based
on reader questions.
Q:
I asked for help on a pattern weeks ago
and haven’t received a response.
What’s the deal?
A: It does take a while for our Pattern
Wranglers to sift through all the emails
they receive about patterns. And while they’re
tackling the pattern questions from previous
issues, they’re also working on writing
and formatting the patterns for the next
issue. And not just for Knit.1,
but for Vogue
Knitting and Knit
Simple. We try very hard to address
all your questions and concerns in a timely
manner, and we ask for your patience and
understanding when we don’t get to
them right away. It can take up to 2-3 weeks.
Q:
I saw the cutest thing in your recent
issue but I’m not ready to pay
for the whole magazine. Any chance you
sell individual patterns?
A: Nope.
Q:
There was this pattern in one of your
magazines that I really wanted to make,
and I bought the issue but lost it, and
now I can’t remember which one
it is. Can you help me?
A: Yes, but you’ll have to be more
specific. Tell us specifically what you remember
about the pattern—was it a sweater?
Hat? Scarf? What color was it?—and
we can start to narrow it down. Fortunately,
we’re still at a point in Knit.1 history
where there are only a handful of issues
in which your long lost pattern could be.
No matter where it is, we will find it!
Q:
Hey, what happened to the alphabet charts
that were on the "Knit Extras" page?
A: The alphabet charts, along with any charts
and other information from *previous issues*
have been moved to the Archive, which is
accessible by clicking on the "Knit
Extras Archive" link. From now on,
if there's something not from the current
issue, it will be found on the Archives page. |
